Memorial Day 2025 – The Ultimate Sacrifice

From Wikipedia –

“Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States.

It is a day for visiting cemeteries and memorials to mourn the military personnel who died in the line of duty. Volunteers will place American flags on the graves of those military personnel in national cemeteries.

The first national observance of Memorial Day occurred on May 30, 1868. Then known as Decoration Day (celebrated by laying flowers or “decorating” the graves of the deceased) and observed on May 30, the holiday was proclaimed by Commander in Chief John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic to honor the Union soldiers who had died in the American Civil War.”

I have recently noticed folks getting upset that other folks mix up the purpose of Veteran’s Day versus the purpose of Memorial Day. I do think it is important to know the difference. In my opinion, laying some praise on anyone who has served our country is always a good thing; however, someone giving their life in service of our country is truly the ultimate sacrifice, and an important distinction.  Thank you all of your for your service, and especially to those who made that sacrifice. God bless.
