Wagener Terrace is a downtown Charleston neighborhood situated along the Ashley River side of the Peninsula. Wagener Terrace offers downtown convenience but is truly a residential community composed mainly of single family Craftsman style homes with spacious front and backyards.

Wagener Terrace was developed in the late 1800′s when William Lowndes sold his 34 acre, waterfront plantation to Frederick Wagener. Lowndes Grove Plantation remains a stunning 14 acre estate on the banks of the Ashley River. Wagener and his family lived on the plantation until 1917 when he sold it to James Sottile, who then moved into the main home and split 20 acres of the land into residential lots, calling the future neighborhood “Wagener Terrace Subdivision.” Construction began in the 1920′s and continued through the 1940′s. The cottages and bungalows that were built during this time still remain today, and many have been restored and renovated.

Hampton Park Terrace is neighborhood located in close proximity to the Ashley River on the Charleston peninsula. The neighborhood is bounded on the west by the Citadel, on the north by Hampton Park, on the east by Rutledge Avenue, and on the south by Congress Street. Located directly below Hampton Park the neighborhood has become a popular location for families, young professionals, and graduate students.

Most of the housing in the neighborhood was constructed between 1912 and 1925. The architecture of the neighborhood follows national trends of the period and represents a distinct break from the local tradition of Charleston's other historic areas. Because of its largely intact concentration of early 20th century architecture, the neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
